Step 1: Application For

This is the most important step. Choose the service you need:

  • Marriage Certificate: Select this only if your marriage ceremony has already been performed (e.g., through religious rituals) and you just need the legal certificate. You will be asked for your date of marriage.
  • Court Marriage (Same Religion): Select this if both partners share the same religion and want a civil marriage ceremony.
  • Court Marriage (Different Religion): Select this if partners belong to different religions. This process falls under the Special Marriage Act, 1954.

Step 2: Applicant Details (Groom & Bride)

Fill out all details carefully for both applicants.

  • Full Name and Email: Ensure names match your ID proofs (Aadhaar, Passport). Provide active email IDs for communication.
  • Date of Birth and Age: The form requires the Groom to be at least 21 years old and the Bride to be at least 18 years old.
Note: For a Court Marriage under the Special Marriage Act, the legal requirement is 21 years for both partners.
  • Marital Status: Select your current status. If "Divorced," the final divorce decree is mandatory. If "Widowed," the death certificate of the previous spouse is required.
  • Address and Jurisdiction: The address is crucial. The application must be filed in the jurisdiction (district/sub-registrar office) where at least one applicant has resided for a specific period (usually 30 days).

Benefits Of
Marriage Registration

A marriage certificate is the only universally accepted legal proof of marriage for official and government purposes.
It is essential for applying for a change of surname, adding the spouse's name to a passport, or obtaining a spouse visa for foreign travel/residence.
Registration secures inheritance rights, property claims, bank nominations, and claims to life insurance or pension benefits after the spouse's demise.
It facilitates the opening of joint bank accounts, property registration, and other financial dealings requiring proof of spousal relationship.
It is a key document that ensures legal protection and prevents harassment or exploitation, validating the woman’s rights within the marriage.
It is required for updating marital status on Aadhar Card, PAN Card, and other government records.
A registered marriage greatly simplifies matters related to separation, maintenance, or divorce proceedings if they ever arise.
A registered marriage ensures legitimacy and helps establish legal guardianship and rights over children.
A single certificate can be issued under either the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, or the Special Marriage Act, 1954, based on the application.
